VOLUME EYELASH EXTENSIONS

FAN ART

VOLUME MATH

The volume technique uses ultra-fine extensions to create volume fans. Each fan consists of 2-20 extensions, depending on the technique and desired result. It is important to select the correct diameter to prevent damage to the natural lashes.

RussianVolume and Bordeaux methods usually use 0.07mm, 0.10mm and 0.12mm lashes. This type of volume creates dense sets with a “perfect top line”. In order to achieve this result, the precision in creating the fans and application is crucial. Thicker extensions are used to create 100% symmetrical fans, as thicker extensions are easier to manipulate.

AmericanVolume a.k.a “Everyday Volume” method uses mostly 0.03mm, 0.05mm and 0.07mm lashes. This type of volume does not require perfectly symmetrical fans, resulting in fluffy and textured sets.

DIAMETER VS. WEIGHT

The diameter is NOT the same as the weight of an extension. To determine the equivalent weight, we must determine the equivalent volume.

It can be difficult to understand this concept, so let’s talk about it in the terms of cubes.

The same concept can be applied to lash extensions! 2 x 0.10mm extensions are not the same weight as 1 x 0.20mm extension. As you can see, there’s still void space to be filled.

VOLUME MATH

How many 10mm 0.10mm extensions is equivalent to a single 10mm 0.20mm extension?

We have to first determine the volume of a 0.10mm extension and a 0.20mm extension. Then determine how many 0.10mm extensions would be equivalent to a 0.20mm extension.

We can fit approximately 4 x 0.10mm extensions into 1 x 0.20mm extension. This means that 4 of the 0.10mm extensions is equivalent (in weight) to a single 0.20mm extension.

FAN AESTHETIC

Creating Volume Fans is a form of art. It takes lots of practice and dedication to develop this skill, so don’t be discouraged if you’re unable to grasp the techniques immediately. You have to continue to practice to learn the micromovements involved in creating Volume Fans.

FAN SYMMETRY

The industry has always put a lot of focus on achieving Perfect Fans. 99% of the volume courses in the industry focus on Fan Perfection. The goal is to create 100% symmetrical fans. While we do agree that Fan Perfection produces beautiful sets and takes skill, it also takes a lot of time. It can take upwards of 4+ hours to create a set with 100% Perfect Fans – this is not justifiable when servicing clients.

We believe that there is a time and place for everything. Perfect Fans should be used for portfolio work or competitions, where we are judging every single detail of an artists’ work.

PerfectFans are 100% symmetrical and have a 1mm distance between each extension. It is easiest to create them with thicker extensions (0.07mm, 0.10mm, 0.12mm), as you’ll have more control over each lash.

The Strip and BounceTechnique are best for creating Perfect Fans, as it gives you full control over each manipulating the lashes.

We love PerfectlyImperfectFans, which are still beautiful and create gorgeous results. They’re not 100% symmetrical and that’s ok. As long as they are fairly balanced, it can be applied. These fans will create more texture as well.

Any Volume Technique can be used to achieve Perfectly Imperfect Fans.

The end goal is to create Perfect Fans, but don’t stress if they’re not 100%! If they’re almost perfect, apply it!

FAN WIDTH

Volume Fans can be customized to suit your client’s needs.

WideFans will create more a fluffy effect, but will also provide more coverage as it is wider.

This type of fan is great for clients who have sparse natural lashes, which require more coverage to create the illusion of more lashes.

It can also be used for clients who have lots of natural lashes, but wish to achieve a more natural and fluffy set.

NarrowFans will create a more density on the lash line – almost like a strip lash effect.

This type of fan is more suitable for clients who have more natural lashes, resulting in a very dark lash line. Using narrow fans on clients with sparse natural lashes can result in a “gappy” lash line.

FAN ISSUES

Although we do not need to always achieve 100% symmetrical fans, we still need to ensure that the lashes are spread out correctly and have a pointy base. The lashes should be spread out with a pointy base that is approximately 1.5mm.

Ensure to spread the lashes out correctly. Only approximately 1.5mm of the base of the lashes should be together.

Do not dip too must adhesive, as it can travel up the fan, causing it to close up.

Bases can come apart if the grip is not strong enough, so the lashes shift when you go to pick up the fan. It can also happen if you’re not lifting towards your chest – lifting sideways can cause the bases to shift to the side.
